Monthly Snapshot is a series of posts written for my sister Natalie and my brother Michael, who are currently on multi-month missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormon), and for anyone else away from regular news sources. This is a quick snap-shot of current events and culture to give them an idea of everything that has gone on while they are out and about.
Current Events
June 5, 2014 – Another shooting, this time in Washington at Seattle Pacific University. While there was one person killed and three injured, several students were able to subdue the shooter while he was reloading his shotgun, preventing further injury.

US Army Soldier Sgt. Bowe Bergdah is freed after five years of being a P.O.W. in a Taliban prison in Afghanistan. The U.S. traded five detainees from Guantanamo to free him, creating questions of the negotiation. There are also questions of whether Sgt. Bergdah was attempting to desert when he was captured.
Syria and Ukraine are still in turmoil, and now a small group of dissidents in Iraq are rioting against the government. I am sure we will find peace at some time.

I only watch two if those, so I know what I’m rooting for.
Keeps it nice and simple.
Man, I’ve been putting off watching Agents of Shield for a while now.I have so much to catch up on. Almost Human, Sleepy Hollow and The Blacklist all look great. Like I said, I have so much to watch over the summer holidays!
There seems a dearth of good television this summer, which, hopefully, will give you a chance to catch up. Judging from your blog, I think you’d enjoy Sleepy Hollow the most – given, they have more undead creatures than other shows. Also – great female characters.
My husband really liked Almost Human and Sleepy Hollow. I really liked Once Upon a Time and sort of liked Agents of Shield. For what it’s worth.
Thanks for the thoughts. I’ll keep it in mind.
I gave up on Agents of Shield for many reasons. I’d put that as best show I gave up on. Had potential, and sometimes I enjoyed it, but I just couldn’t get into it. Mei Mei told me it’s getting a lot better, but it lost me, and I have yet to go back.
However, I have had friends telling me to watch Once Upon a Time for the past 2 years, and I finally caved and started season 1 a few weeks ago on Netflix. I’m really enjoying it! Sometimes it’s corny, but it’s slowly gaining it’s footing and gripping me. I’m not sure what award I would give it. “Best show that Kiri had low expectations for but ended up really liking” Haha.
I’ve heard good things about Believe but haven’t seen it yet.
I think that’s a great award for Once Upon A Time. It’s a good show with flashes of greatness. I really got hooked on the show, however, in the middle of Season 1. The mid-season finale has many flashes of greatness, and makes the slower episodes more bearable, building up to the next great moment.
Ohhh I really like “The Voice” so that’s getting my vote 🙂
The Voice is my go-to I’m not feeling well show. It’s fun, light, and, now and then, has fantastic performances.
I just started watching (albeit, late) Parks and Rec. I need to find a way to get to it from Day 1. I think I kinda like it. 🙂
The first 2/3 of the first season aren’t great. I didn’t start watching it till the second season – so, I’d start from there. I’m pretty sure it’s on Netflix.
